Miller, Daniel lead area runners in Galion

GALION — Mohawk’s Julia Daniel and Upper Sandusky’s Garrett Miller had the top finishes in the Galion Cross Country Festival on Saturday at Amman’s Reservoir.
Daniel finished 16th in the Division III girls race in 20:45.0. Teammate Jessie Babcock was 62nd in 23:33.9, while Kayla Risner was two spots behind in 23:42.4 as the Warriors were 13th as a team.
Wynford was 12th, led by Ellie Richmond’s 19th-place finish in 21:17.5. Madison Graham was 56th in 23:16.7, Celestia Starner placed 60th in 23:29.5 and Rachel Redolf was 61st was 23:30.8.
In Division II, Upper Sandusky placed 24th, led by Zoe Garber in 102nd place with a time of 23:11.1. Kirsten Garnder was 123rd in 23:45.7 and Brianna Franklin placed 135th in 24:23.8.
Miller placed 36th in the boys Division II race in 17:03.0. Dominic Solis was 66th in 17:44.4 and Andre Myers placed 137th in 18:47.6 as the Rams were 25th as a team.
In Division III, Wynford was 11th and Mohawk finished 15th.
Mark Pfeifer led the Royals with a 39th-place finish in 17:46.9. Jordy Kiess was 44th in 17:57.9 and M.J. Quaintance broke the 18-minute mark with a 46th-place finish in 17:59.5.
Alex Hoerig led the Warriors by placing 49th in 18:01.9. Mitch Brown was 57th in 18:10.9.
Wynford runs Tuesday in the Crawford County Invitational. Upper Sandusky’s next meet is the Ontario Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday at Marshall Park. Mohawk runs in the Van Wert County Hospital Invitational at the same time.
