Two players from Upper Sandusky and one from Wynford earned top honors on the All-North Central Conference baseball first-team released today.
Upper Sandusky seniors Justin Mattix and Mark Walton and Wynford junior Adam Hartz were among the 12 players named to the first team.
Adam Hartz
Hartz, a shortstop and pitcher, led Wynford with a .397 batting average, four home runs, 10 doubles, two triples, 27 runs scored and 30 RBIs. On the mound, he served as the team’s No. 2 pitcher, going 2-2 with a 2.58 ERA. He struck out 27 in 21 2/3 innings and had two saves.
Justin Mattix
Mattix was Upper Sandusky’s ace and second-leading hitter as a center fielder. He finished the year 4-3 with a 3.05 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 43 2/3 innings. At the plate, he hit .377 with one home run, eight doubles, 14 runs scored and a team-best 24 RBIs.
Walton, a catcher, was the Rams’ top hitter with a .403 average. He doubled eight times and had one triple with 19 runs scored and 14 RBIs.
Mark Walton
Second-team honors went to Wynford senior Chase Lantz, Riverdale senior Brett Parish and Upper Sandusky junior Daniel Newell, while the Falcons’ Evan Wolfe, the Rams’ Andrew Meddings and the Royals’ Taran Stuckman were given honorable mention.
Lantz served as Wynford’s ace and also was a middle infielder. He finished the year 5-3 with a 2.94 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 52 1/3 innings. At the plate, he was a .281 hitter with five doubles, 21 runs scored and 16 RBIs.
Parish was Riverdale’s leading hitter with a .427 average. He had four doubles and a triple while driving in 18 runs and scoring 23.
Newell, who played shortstop and pitched, was a .359 hitter with four doubles, 17 runs scored and nine RBIs.
Wolfe, Riverdale’s catcher, was a .273 hitter with four doubles, 15 runs scored and 18 RBIs.
Meddings served as the Rams’ No. 2 pitcher, going 2-4 with a 3.13 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 38 innings.
Stuckman, the Royals’ center fielder, batted .325 with eight doubles, 23 runs scored and 25 RBIs.
