Falcons’ Conover places 6th in 800 run

LANCASTER — Riverdale senior Jordan Conover finished two places and less than a second out of state qualifying in the Division III regional track and field meet held Friday at Fairfield-Union High School near Lancaster.
Conover placed sixth in the 800 run in 2:01.01, falling just behind the final state qualifier from the regional, fourth-place finisher Luke Hocker of Chillicothe Huntington, who finished in 2:00.08.
Columbus Academy’s Jon Michael Hilsheimer won the event in 1:56.30, edging out his teammate Dominic Facciolla by .2.
In finals held Wednesday, Conover was a member of Riverdale’s 3200 relay team that placed seventh in 8:24.44.
Also on the first day, Wynford’s Jon Miller took the top spot in the discus with a best throw of 158-9, while teammate Nate Brown was sixth in the long jump at 19-8.75.
Competition in the state meet in Division III begins at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.
