Emerick leads Rams past Vikings, 5-3

Upper Sandusky’s Brandon Miller controls the ball off his knee Saturday against River Valley. The Rams outshot the Vikings, 23-12, and took a 5-3 victory.

The Upper Sandusky boys soccer team jumped to a 4-1 lead and then coasted to victory, 5-3, against River Valley on Saturday.
Taylor Emerick scored two goals for the Rams (5-2) and assisted another, while Justin Stoneburner, Cody Shuster and Shin Nagahama also had goals for the Rams.
Micha Blue scored twice for River Valley and A.J. Roth had the other Vikings goal.
The Rams were the runaway aggressor, firing 23 shots to to River Valley’s 12. Vikings goalkeeper Mitch Messinger was able to deter 12 of the shots, while William Amert had four saves for the Rams.
Upper Sandusky held an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
Emerick opened scoring in the 17th minute with an unassisted goal, before Stoneburner beat the buzzer by 44 seconds as the Rams took a 2-0 lead into the break.
Blue finally got the Vikings on the scoreboard in the 47th minute, only to watch Emerick and Shuster score two more times by the 68th minute to give the Rams an insurmountable lead, 4-1.
Upper Sandusky will take on Tiffin Calvert on the road at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
