CAREY — Carey softball pitcher Aly Rymer struck out nine in a three-hit shutout against Van Buren on Tuesday as the Blue Devils pulled away late for a 7-0 victory.
The Blue Devils (11-10) scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning and added some insurance in the sixth inning with five more runs.
Along with the three hits and nine strikeouts, Rymer (10-8) held the Black Knights (7-15) to three walks and no extra-base hits as Nikki Miller, Paige Sudlow and Robyn Flick all singled.
Leading the way for the Carey offense was Katie Driggers, who singled and doubled, while scoring two runs and driving in three. Taylor Fletcher added a single and 3 RBIs, while Abby Hall scored twice. Hannah Draper, Erin Boes, Audrey Hotelling and Jessica Wyatt all added singles.
Carey returns to Midland Athletic League action at 5 p.m. today as it travels to North Baltimore.
