CAREY — The Carey volleyball team prevailed against Fostoria St. Wendelin, 25-15, 25-21, 25-22, despite a wavering serving display on Monday.
The Blue Devils (4-3, 1-1 Midland Athletic League) were great at times, recording 17 aces in the match, and subpar during other stretches.
“We had 14 serving errors and really kept St. Wendelin in the match with our missed serves,” coach Eric Vackert said. “I can’t remember seeing a team so up and down with their serves during a match.”
Hannah Tong and Shelby Seifert again recorded double-digit kills for the Blue Devils with 14 and 11, respectively. The two each led the team with five aces.
Seifert also paced Carey’s front line with six blocks.
Sydney Wentling added a pair of aces to go with 25 assists, on 65 of 67 setting, and five blocks.
Defensively, Taylor Fletcher had 11 digs, Logan Johnson had nine and Mackenzie Wentling posted eight.
Carey takes on Lakota at home at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Carey’s Hannah Tong (5) gets her hand up and blocks an attack by a St. Wendelin player on Thursday night. Tong had 14 kills on a 30-of-32 hitting effort in the three-set Blue Devils victory.
