Carey girls place 4th at Ada Invite

The Mohawk and Carey 800 relay teams make their second exchanges during the Ada Invitational on Saturday. Carey won the heat and finished fourth overall with a time of 1:36.37, while Mohawk was a split second behind in fifth (1:36.89).

ADA — The Carey girls track and field team placed fourth overall at the 16-team Ada Invitational on Saturday, while the boys had Cory Larick win the pole vault.
Minster and Versailles finished 1-2, respectively, in both the boys and girls meets. The Blue Devils finished tied for fourth (47) with Bucyrus, while Mohawk was 15th (13) in the girls meet. On the boys side, Carey was sixth with 40 points, while Mohawk was the last spot in the top 10 with 25 points.
Taylor Decker and Dana Newell led the Blue Devils as they finished second (35-1) and third (34-8.5), respectively. Decker added a third-place finish in the discus (109-10), while Newell was third in the high jump (5-0). Carey also was second as a team in the 400 relay (52.27).
Mohawk’s girls were led by Julia Daniel in the 3200 run (12:27.32) as she was fourth, while its 3200 relay (10:18.35) placed fifth.
Larick won the pole vault with a height of 13-6, while also earning third place in the long jump (19-11.75). Tommy Arredondo received runner-up honors in the high jump by going 6-1.
The Warriors boys were led by Josh Messersmith’s fourth-place finish in the 110 hurdles (17-13) and their fifth-place finishes in the 800 relay (1:36.89) and 3200 relay (9:02.7).
Mohawk competes at the Seneca East Relays at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, while both schools compete at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fostoria’s Memorial Stadium for the Midland Athletic League championships.
