Calvin scores lone Upper goal in loss

VAN BUREN— The Upper Sandusky girls took the lead early Thursday in a match with Van Buren, but it turned out to be fool’s gold as the Rams were held scoreless the rest of the way in a 3-1 loss.
Jaime Calvin netted the team’s only goal a little more than 10 minutes into the first half.
Kristin Tropf, Nichole Miller and Kayla Sonnenberg scored for the Black Knights.
Van Buren edged Upper Sandusky (2-2) in shots on goal, 18-5, and corner kicks, 5-3. Even so, Rams’ goalkeeper Keely Stover held her own with 17 saves.
The Rams clung to the lead until there was 2:38 left in the first half, when Tropf tied it up.
The momentum carried over to the second half, as Miller scored within the ninth minute before Sonnenberg added another for good measure.
Van Buren’s Rachel Wymer had four saves.
The Rams play at 10 a.m. Saturday at River Valley.
