Archbold shuts out Riverdale, 7-0

Battle for the ball

Riverdale’s Chad Pever (23) battles for possession of the ball with an Archbold player Saturday. The Blue Streaks defeated the Falcons in a season-opening boys soccer match, 7-0.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Brodie Nofziger scored four times to lead Archbold to a season-opening 7-0 victory against Riverdale on Saturday.
David Bontrager, Shae Hernandez and Jeremy Lerma also scored goals for Archbold, which led 4-0 at halftime.
Nofziger, Bontrager, Matthew Sevey and Jacob Ott scored goals for the Blue Streaks (1-0).
Archbold held a 13-5 advantage in shots on goal, while the Falcons had more corner kicks, 5-1.
Jimmy Fox stopped five shots for Riverdale. Emerson Radebaugh had five saves in a shutout performance for Archbold.
The Blue Streaks also won the junior varsity match, 3-0.
Riverdale tries to bounce back in a 5 p.m. match Wednesday at Ottoville.
