Adelsperger fires no-no vs. Wildcats

Another no-hitter

Mohawk’s Kasey Adelsperger threw her second no-no in six days against Vanlue in the sectional semifinals Saturday at Riverdale in a 10-0 victory. Adelspger no-hit Tiffin Calvert on Monday and had five walks and nine strikeouts in both feats.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — One is good, but two is better. For Mohawk softball pitcher Kasey Adelsperger, two no-hitters in six days is a feat she should not soon forget as she pitched a five-inning no-no against Vanlue in the sectional semifinals at Riverdale High School on Saturday.
She (12-4) struck out nine and walked five in the victory.
“Kasey is our No. 1 pitcher and she’s out there trying her best,” Warriors coach Jenny Weinandy said.
“I don’t think I could have thrown either one without my defense in either game,” Adelsperger said. “They’ve been behind me all season.”
Last Monday, she did not allow a hit at Tiffin Calvert in a 14-0 victory, where she again walked five and struck out nine.
Vanlue (4-18) held Mohawk scoreless in the first inning, but the Warriors (14-5) got four runs in the second inning and five more in the third before adding a final tally in the fourth inning.
Nikki Kieffer, Molli Cartwright and Clara Adelsperger all singled to lead off the second inning and Sarah Runion added her own soon after. All four scored as Runion crossed home plate as Taylor McClain reached on an error.
In the third frame, Dani Tyree, Keiffer, Cartwright, Clara Adeslperger and Ashley Cooper all reached base on non-hits and eventually scored.
Runion, Kieffer, Cartwright and Clara Adelsperger each had two hits, while McClain added a triple. Clara Adelsperger and MacKenzie Sowers both doubled.

Hold on to it

Mohawk’s Dani Tyree slides in safe to second base as a high throw lifted Vanlue second baseman Logan Frey’s foot off the bag during the third inning Saturday in the Division IV sectional semifinals.

In the top of the fifth inning, Kasey Adelsperger walked two and struck out two before fielding a grounder from the bat of Haley Bonham and tossing over to Cooper at first base to end the game.
“It’s the first win of the tournament,” Weinandy said. “I felt we had a lot of energy going into the game, but I didn’t think we hit very well and started to play to the level of the game.”
Mohawk and No. 7-ranked Arlington are set to do battle for the second time this season in the sectional finals at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Riverdale. The Warriors handed the Red Devils their first loss, 4-0, on April 19.
