Carey defense stifles Buckeye Central

NEW WASHINGTON — Carey suffocated Buckeye Central with its defense in taking a 46-21 road victory Friday night in Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys basketball play.

The Blue Devils (14-3, 10-1 N10) led 15-4 after one quarter, 25-9 at halftime and 45-11 at the end of three quarters before the Bucks (5-13, 1-10 N10) nearly doubled their total with 10 points in the fourth quarter.

Bryce Young knocked down four 3-pointers and scored 12 points to lead Carey. Carter Smiley finished with 10 points. Brayden Young had eight points and five rebounds.

Jack Phillips hit a pair of 3-pointers to score six points to lead Buckeye Central.

The Bucks made just 8 of 34 (23.5%) field goal attempts, including 3 of 14 from long range, and were 2 of 5 at the foul line. They also had 17 turnovers.

Carey went 16 of 38 (42.1%) on field goals, including 9 of 25 on 3-pointers, and made 5 of 6 foul shots with 14 turnovers.

The Blue Devils had more rebounds, 24-18.

Led by Eli Steen with 10 points, Carey won the junior varsity game 50-44.

Bucyrus visits Carey for a game at 5 p.m. today.
