Republicans to appoint replacement

Wyandot County Commissioner Michael Wheeler will retire May 31 and with Wheeler being a Republican, the Wyandot County Republican Party will meet the first week of June to appoint someone to fill his seat temporarily until his unexpired term, which ends Dec. 21, 2014, which can be voted upon by the registered voters of Wyandot County at the next general election to be held Nov. 6.
Each of the majority parties — Democrat and Republican — may appoint one person to run for the commissioner’s seat to the Wyandot County Board of Elections by Aug. 13. Anyone who is a registered party member may contact the Board of Elections for the telephone numbers of the respective political party chairmen.
Any independent person wishing to run must come to the Wyandot County Board of Elections and pick up a petition. Each independent person must have 73 names of registered voters on the petition and have it returned to the Board of Elections no later than 4 p.m. June 11 with an $80 filing fee.
Petitions may be picked up from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the board office unless other arrangement are made.
