Upper Idol is adding two more weeks of qualifying to this season’s contest.
Rather than beginning week one of a three-week finals contest today, the karaoke contest organizers are choosing to make the next two Wednesdays be two more nights of qualifying in order to allow for more contestants to have one more try to make the finals.
“A lot of the people who did it last year are in this year’s Star Theatre production of ‘Titanic’ and that takes up (about) 100 people, so (the move) is to allow those people who enjoyed it last year to enjoy it this year,” Shotzy’s Bar and Grille general manager Brian Pino said.
The contest begins at 7 tonight at Shotzy’s, 130 N. Sandusky St., Upper Sandusky.
Registration is free and the grand prize is a trip for two to Las Vegas.
If three people qualify each week, the finals could feature about 12 contestants.
The finals begin at 7 p.m. Aug. 15, with finalists able to begin choosing their songs at 6:30 p.m.
