Metzger appointed as chairman

The Wyandot County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to appoint Commissioner Ron Metzger as chairman on Tuesday.
Metzger, who has been sitting in for Mike Wheeler since his retirement May 31, will serve until the end of December.
The board typically elects a chairperson at the beginning of each calendar year.; however, the position became vacant last week when Joyce Morehart retired.
The Republican Central Committee has 45 days to appoint a new commissioner to replace Morehart and Chairman Sherman Stansberry said the committee has arranged to meet Sept. 18. Stansberry did not name any possible candidates, but said the committee could come to a decision as early as the meeting.
Whomever the RCC appoints will serve only until the end of 2012, as, due to Wheeler’s departure earlier this year, county residents will vote on all three commissioner slots this November.
Commissioner Steven Seitz said chairman of the board is a nominal title. The chairman acts as a spokesperson for the commissioners and signs documents requiring one signature, but has no authoritative control over his or her cohorts.
Morehart’s retirement last week came after sitting on the board nearly 12 years.
