Several items had the county commissioners’ attention Thursday, namely the running of the wires on its new telecommunications deal.
“They’re working on our installation of our fiber optic lines,” Commissioner Steve Seitz said.
“There’s a big line for savings potential,” Commissioner Mike Wheeler said. “If there were a net savings, it will safely save more than $20,000 during 2013 and that’s really good, with the enhanced services at no cost and the potential savings.”
One of the entities which will benefit immediately is the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
“Residents will now have the ability to have the Internet and their own phone numbers if they wish also,” Seitz said.
“With the new amenities and two new rooms being done there, it’s really going to look nice,” Wheeler said.
Seitz also reported the Wyandot County Dog Shelter had completed the renovation of its drop-off point as the motion sensor lights were installed.
“With the way that system is, if someone who doesn’t know if there’s a potential ferocious dog in there, they can tell if one is in there,” Wheeler said.
Wheeler also said county engineer Mike Kohl and a team will be reviewing county roads at a cost of $34,760.
“They’re going to do a survey on 316 miles of road,” Wheeler said.
The commissioners also passed a resolution, stating the county has applied to the Ohio Department of Development for funding under the Small Cities Block Grant Program.
“We only had one visitor who came in to sit on it,” Wheeler said. “This is the second hearing and each one is revised.”
A public hearing was required to be held for those who wish to express their interest.
The county communities and entities which have applied for the program are the skilled nursing and rehabilitation center, the villages of Sycamore and Wharton and Tymochtee Township.
