William Vaughn
William “Bill” C. Vaughn, of Upper Sandusky, died at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012 at Fairhaven Community, Upper Sandusky. He was 85.
Born Nov. 30, 1927 in Elkfork, Ky., he was a son of the late Richard “Van” and Flora (Holbrook) Vaughn. He married Pauline R. Bachtell on July 14, 1950 in Nevada and she survives. The couple recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.
Mr. Vaughn also is survived by a son, Dennis (Joyce) Vaughn, Bucyrus; a daughter, Vickie Griswold, Upper Sandusky; four grandchildren, Gwyndolyn Vaughn, Brian (Kerri) Vaughn, Amy Vaughn and Edward Griswold; four great-grandchildren, Bryton, Trent, Chase and Logan Vaughn; and a brother, Robert “Gene” (Ruth) Vaughn, Bucyrus.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Greg Vaughn; three brothers, Earnest, who died in infancy, Jack and James Curtis; and four sisters, Oshie St. John, Goldie Carr, Betty Earley and Hazel Brady.
Mr. Vaughn retired from Timken Company, Bucyrus, as a cup operator after 31 years of employment. He also farmed with his brothers-in-law for many years.
He was a member of North Salem Lutheran Church, Upper Sandusky, for more than 60 years.
Mr. Vaughn enjoyed hunting, fishing, doing woodcrafts and visiting friends. He loved spending time with his family and cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Vaughn always will be remembered for his big smile and warm hugs.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Joe Trester officiating. Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery, Upper Sandusky. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
