John Bennett
John H. Bennett, 84, of West Johnson Street, Upper Sandusky, died at 9:40 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2008, in the Fairhaven Health Care and Retirement Community where he had resided for the past two years.
He was born May 27, 1924 in Upper Sandusky to David and Mary (Roberts) Bennett. He married Juanita J. Conn on July 6, 1946 and she survives in Upper Sandusky.
Mr. Bennett also is survived by two daughters, Susan (Gary) Heckathorn, Upper Sandusky; and Shirley (Ronald) Boes, New Riegel; a son, Steve (Marcia) Bennett, Upper Sandusky; five grandchildren, Zachary Boes, Iraq; Laura Boes, New Riegel; Michelle Heckathorn, Upper Sandusky; Cara Bennett, North Baltimore; and Kelly Bennett, Upper Sandusky; and a sister, Anna Beardsley, Florida.
He is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sharon; four brothers, Sam, David, Glenn and Gene; and three sisters Eileen Barth, Mary Lawrence and Betty Bennett.
Mr. Bennett retired from the former Swan Rubber, Bucyrus, after 51 years of employment. He was an United States Army veteran of World War II serving from 1943-1947 in the 303rd station hospital unit in England as an med technician.
He was former member of Trinity United Church of Christ.
Mr. Bennett was a life member of VFW Post No. 2842 and the AMVETS Post No. 777. He was a former member of American Legion Post No. 225, Moose Lodge No. 1093 and Eagles No. 2184, all of Upper Sandusky. He helped organized and coached pony league baseball teams in Upper Sandusky.
He enjoyed feeding squirrels, camping, mowing, grocery shopping and traveling, especially to Branson, Mo. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. Mr. Bennett loved going to Army reunions. His life enjoyments were to lend a helping hand and spending time with his grandchildren.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bringman-Clark Funeral Home with the Rev. Cindy Burkshire officiating. Burial is in Old Mission Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
