Marilyn Holzwart

Marilyn Elizabeth Holzwart, Upper Sandusky, died Monday, May 19, 2008 at the Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus. She was 66.
Born July 17, 1941 in Belle Vernon, she was a daughter of Floyd and Blanche (Roberts) Burks. She married Wayne E. Holzwart on Nov. 8, 1959 in Belle Vernon and he survives.
Mrs. Holzwart also is survived by two sons, Mark (Susan), Upper Sandusky; and John (Amy), Findlay; two daughters, Doreen Lemmert (Mike Medal), Cuyahoga Falls; and Catherine Elizabeth (Maxwell) Gerber, Upper Sandusky; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Michael and Gabrielle Holzwart, Lucas Medal, Alissa, Abigail and Anna Gerber, Abram Johnston and Clayton Harley Holzwart; two brothers, Harlan Dave Burks, Columbus; and Wayne Burks, Upper Sandusky; and two sisters, Bonnie Sharrock, Grand Rapids; and Maxine Hannam, Sycamore.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Bob and Keith Burks.
She was a 1959 graduate of Mohawk High School.
Mrs. Holzwart was a state-certified nursing assistant at Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community for 29 years. During that time, she also worked at Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Wyandot Manor and Westinghouse, all of Upper Sandusky. She also provided home health care for various residents in Wyandot County.
In her association with Fairhaven, Mrs. Holzwart recently traveled to Joplin, Mo., to receive a national award through the National Association of Health Care Assistants for having the Best Attitude, for which she received a standing ovation.
She was a member of the former Bethany Lutheran Church since 1960. After its closing, she transferred her membership to North Salem Lutheran Church.
Within the church, Mrs. Holzwart was active as a children’s Sunday school teacher, a member of church council and various other activities.
She was a former member of Mothers’ Club, Upper Sandusky, and a bowling team member at Wyandot Lanes.
For hobbies, Mrs. Holzwart enjoyed flower gardening, sewing, bird watching, baking, especially cookies, volunteering at Fairhaven and spending time with her grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church with the Revs. Andrea Starn, John Hoover and Mike Brown officiating. Burial will be at Schoenberger Cemetery, Upper Sandusky. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, and one hour prior to the service at the church Friday.
Memorials may be made to Fairhaven Community or Miracles for Marilyn, a new ministry created in Mrs. Holzwart’s honor that provides personalized scarves for brain surgery patients, in care of Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, 476 S. Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky OH 43351.

David A. Augenstein, of Edgewood Drive, Upper Sandusky, died at 7:54 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2008 at the Wyandot Memorial Hospital emergency room. He was 66.
Memorials may be made to the Wyandot County Humane Society, Upper Sandusky Community Library or an organization of the donor’s choice in care of Bringman-Clark Funeral Home, 226 E. Wyandot Ave., Upper Sandusky OH 43351.
