Evelyn Eimas
CAREY — Evelyn M. Eimas, Columbus, died on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, following a short illness at The Friendship Village in Columbus. She was 94.
The daughter of Dr. Harry and Jessie Hosafros, she married Marcus Eimas on May 23, 1937 at Carey. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Eimas is survived by a son, Richard Eimas, Reston, Va.; a sister, Jean Sinchak, Green Valley, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Christopher Eimas, Arlington, Va.; Susan Eimas, Reston, Va.; Michael Sinchak, Mesa, Ariz.; and Jennifer Anton, Longmont, Colo.; and four great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Carey High School in 1932, Findlay College in 1936 and received her master’s degree from the University of Denver in 1962.
Prior to retirement in the 1980s, Mrs. Eimas had been a teacher, and later, a librarian in the Aurora, Colo., public schools for many years.
Following retirement, she and her husband moved to Columbus where Mrs. Eimas was active in the Daughters of the American Revolution serving as Regent of the Colonel William Crawford Chapter in Upper Sandusky from 1977 to 1979. She also was active in the Colonial Dames, Daughters of 1812, Daughters of the American Colonists and held several local and state offices in those organizations.
At the time of her death, Mrs. Eimas was the oldest living member of Grace United Methodist Church, Carey.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Ohio Historical Society, the American Association of University Women and the American Library Association. She had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 75 years and was also a long-time member of the Rebekahs.
The funeral is 2 p.m. Thursday at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. Visitation is for two hours prior to the service.
