Grace Collum

MARION - Grace V. (Turner) Collum, Marion, went to be with the Lord Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Marion General Hospital. She was 87.
Born Dec. 22, 1920 in Marion, she was a daughter of Harry and Nessie (Freet) Turner. She married LeMoyne "Tommy" Collum on June 7, 1942 at Marion First Church of the Nazarene and he died.
Mrs. Collum is survived by six daughters, Carol (Rick) Hostrup, Powell; Nancy (Mike) Kuhn, Columbus; Rosemary (Bruce) Atherton, Mitchellville, Iowa; Naomi (Jack) Chevalier, Marion; Barbara (Steve) Wood, Howard; and Joyce (Mike) Nelson, Laramie, Wyo.; nine grandchildren, Michelle Kuhn, Lori (Ron) Robbins, Gwen Marie Adkins, Monica Kuhn, Ron Looker II, Matthew (Kim) Nelson, Rachel and Emily Weaver and Mark Nelson; two stepgrandchildren, Scott (Jackie) Chevalier and Christina (James) Poole; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Danielle Robbins; five stepgreat-grandchildren, Joshia, Jamee, Angel and Abigail Chevalier and Amanda Swartz; a brother, John R. Turner; a sister-in-law, Mary Collum; special friends Wesley and Carolyn Looker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester, Frank and Billy Jo Turner; and a sister, Ruth (Turner) Persinger.
Mrs. Collum was a 1938 graduate of Marion Harding High School.
She and her husband began a life of ministry in the Church of the Nazarene. From 1946-74, her husband was a pastor in Upper Sandusky, Utica, McArthur and Bellevue, while Mrs. Collum served as a Sunday school teacher, missionary president, hostess to visiting missionaries and helped in any way that was needed at his side. She also was employed as a sales associate at Olson’s Lamp Shop, Mount Vernon, and G.C. Murphy Company, Marion. Her primary occupation, however, was that of a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Collum lived a life of compassion, expressing support and concern through a ministry of sending cards, letters, phone calls, cookies and cakes to those she loved. As long as she was able, she visited sick people and shut-ins and kept an extensive prayer list that she addressed daily.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Church of the Nazarene, 233 W. Church St., Marion, with the Rev. Riley Powell officiating. Burial will follow at Marion Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the church.

Barbara McElroy

Barbara McElroy, of Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community and formerly of Country View Group Home, Harpster, died at 2:10 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2008 at Wyandot Memorial Hospital. She was 60.
Born Sept. 5, 1947 in Galion, she was a daughter of Merritt C. and Geraldine I. (Olson) McElroy.
Mrs. McElroy attended Angeline School.
She was employed by Angeline Industries and was involved in Personal Choice Maker of Angeline School.
Mrs. McElroy enjoyed being around people, especially small children, going to cookouts, eating out, shopping, playing games and going to the park.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Mary Curtis officiating. Visitation will be an hour before the service at Bringman Clark Funeral Home.
