Morton Abrams

Morton Abrams, Upper Sandusky and formerly of Clifton, N.J., died Friday, March 21, 2008. He was 87.
Born Feb. 4, 1921 in Newark N.J., he was a son of Harry and Sarah Abrams. He was married to Claire Steiner for 60 years and she died Dec. 1, 2006.
Mr. Abrams is survived by a daughter, Gerri Oldaker, Upper Sandusky; three grandchildren, Heather (Gary) Ball; Jeffrey (Kim) VanBeveren; and Amy (Ryan) Laird; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II.
The funeral was held March 26 at the Jewish Memorial Chapel, Clifton, N.J., with the Rabbi Stanley Skolnick officiating. Burial was at the Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, N.J. A memorial service was held Sunday and Monday in Upper Sandusky.

Grace Collum

MARION - Grace V. (Turner) Collum, Marion, died Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Marion General Hospital. She was 87.
Born Dec. 22, 1920 in Marion, she was a daughter of Harry and Nessle (Freet) Turner. She married LeMoyne "Tommy" Collum on June 7, 1942 at the Marion First Church of the Nazarene and he died.
Mrs. Collum is survived by six daughters, Carol Hostrup, Powell; Nancy Kuhn, Columbus; Rosemary Atherton, Mitchellville, Iowa; Naomi Chevalier, Marion; Barbara Wood, Howard; and Joyce Nelson, Laramie, Wyo.; nine grandchildren, Michelle Kuhn, Lori Robbins, Gwen Marie Adkins, Monica Kuhn, Ron Looker II, Matthew Nelson, Rachel and Emily Weaver and Mark Nelson; five step grandchildren, Joshia, Jamee, Angel and Abigail Chevalier; and Amanda Swartz; and a brother, John R. Turner.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester, Frank and Billy Jo Turner; and one sister, Ruth Persinger.
Mrs. Collum was a graduate of Marion Harding High School in 1938.
She served in the ministry at Marion First Church of the Nazerene and in Upper Sandusky, Utica, McArthur and Bellevue along with her husband. Mrs. Collum served as a Sunday school teacher, missionary president and hostess to visiting missionaries. In addition to serving as a pastor's wife, she as employed as a sales associate at Olson's Lamp Shop, Mount Vernon, and the G.C. Murphy Company, Marion.
Mrs. Collum enjoyed sending cards and letters and making cookies and phone calls to those she loved. She also visited the sick and shut-ins and kept a prayer list.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at Marion First Church of the Nazarene, 233 W. Church St., Marion. Burial will follow the funeral services at Marion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Barbara McElroy

Barbara McElroy, of Fairhaven Retirement and Health Care Community and formerly of Harpster, died at 2:10 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2008 at Wyandot Memorial Hospital. She was 60.
Arrangements are pending at Bringman-Clark Funeral Home.

Lewis Shuherk

FINDLAY - Lewis "Lew" E. Shuherk, Findlay, died at 6:22 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2008 at The Heritage Estates, Findlay. He was 84.
Born Aug. 9, 1923 in Antwerp, he was a son of Charles J. and Edna (Peffley) Shuherk. He married Helen "Betty" Griswold on Sept. 7, 1941 and she died May 5, 2005.
Mr. Shuherk is survived by two daughters, Linda K. Johnson, Sylvania; and Constance "Connie" A. Johnson, Findlay; two brothers, Wayne, Antwerp; and Eddie, Cromwell, Ind.; a sister, Esther Morrow, Antwerp; two grandchildren, Marla and Brent; and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Shuherk was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II from 1943-1946.
He retired after more than 23 years as a buyer for United Air Craft Products. He also worked in retail for 19 years with Haffner's.
Mr. Shuherk was a member St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Findlay.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 3, Findlay; Elks Club, Upper Sandusky; the Scottish and York Rite; the Ohio Priory No. 18 Knights of the York Cross of Honour; the Findlay Shrine and Zenobia clubs; and the Findlay Garden and Antique clubs.
He also was a member of Findlay Lodge No. 227 Free and Accepted Masons, where he was a former master in Findlay Chapter No. 58, past commander in Commandry No. 49 and past master in the Mount Gilead chapter. He was a past patron of the Eastern Star in both Findlay and Mount Gilead.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, Findlay, with the Revs. Todd Frail and John Miller officiating. Burial will be in Knollcrest Gardens, east of Findlay, where full military rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where there will be Masonic and Eastern Star services beginning at 7 p.m., and one hour prior to the funeral Saturday.
Memorials may be made to the Findlay Area Masonic Charity Foundation, 303 Osborn Ave., Findlay OH 45840, or an organization of the donor's choice.
