Lester Savidge
Lester H. Savidge, formerly of Salem Township, Upper Sandusky, died at 7:40 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Ohio Veteran's Home, Sandusky. He was 87.
Born Feb. 1, 1921 in Wyandot County, he was a son of Foster Wallace and Ura B. (Kimmel) Savidge. He married Betty Gatchell and she died. He later married Doris Stiefel and she died.
Mr. Savidge is survived by a son, Kenneth J., Murrells Inlet, S.C.; a daughter, Constance J. Hanke, Norwalk; three grandchildren, Kimberly Humphrey, Adam Hanke and Ryan Hanke; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Harvey and Ralph; and three sisters, Mary, Alice and Margaret.
Mr. Savidge was a graduate of Salem Township High School.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served from 1944 to 1946 as a Seabee.
He was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church.
Mr. Savidge retired after 40 years working as a farmer and also as a self-employed independent carpenter. He also worked as a carpenter for Karg Supply for 12 years and as a custodian at the Wyandot County Courthouse.
He was a member of the Lions Club, Eagles Lodge No. 2184, Moose Lodge No. 1093, Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 2842 and AMVETS No. 777, all of Upper Sandusky.
Mr. Savidge donated many hours at the Wyandot County Museum.
He enjoyed carpentry work, farming, playing cards and doing volunteer work at the Veterans Museum in Sandusky.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Bringman-Clark Funeral Home with the Rev. Julianne Smith officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery. Visitation is from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Morton Abrams, Upper Sandusky, died Friday, March 21, 2008. He was 87.
Born on Feb. 4, 1921 in Newark, N.J., he married Claire Abrams and she died Dec. 1, 2006.
Mr. Abrams is survived by a daughter, Gerri Oldaker; three grandchildren, Heather Bell; Jeffrey VanBeveren; Amy Laird; nine great grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
Mr. Abrams was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II.
The funeral was held Wednesday. Burial took place at the Beth Israel Cemetery, Wood Bridge, N.J. Visitation will take place at 6:30 p.m. Sunday and Monday at 418 Circular St., Upper Sandusky.
FOREST - Grace J. "Skippy" Opper, Wharton, went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ at 8:01 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay. She was 78.
Born May 19, 1929 in Berwick, she was a daughter of John L. Long and Pearl C. Wehrle Long Wisner and stepfather G. Levaun Wisner. She married her sweetheart Jack D. Opper on March 7, 1948 at the Wharton First Church of God parsonage and he survives in Wharton. They recently had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Opper is survived by four daughters, Terri L. Opper, Marion; Dixie O. (Charles) Risser, McCutchenville; and Kimberly A. (David) Passet and Stacy S. (Billy Jr.) Rickle, both of Wharton; a sister-in-law, Bonnie (Long) Jacobs, Wharton; 12 grandchildren, Sharis (Tracy) McDannell, Gabriel Passet, Kristianne (Josh) Thiel, Leah Passet, Angie Efaw, Gillian (Don) Houdeshell, Charles Risser III and Douglas, Arielle, Dustin, Dana and Aleina Rickle; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Carl C. Long; and an only son, Jack Duane Opper.
Mrs. Opper was a 1947 graduate of Wharton School. She was a homemaker.
She was a longtime member of Wharton First Church of God, where she held the office of Sunday school treasurer for many years. She also was on the Ladies WCSC, where she held several offices.
Mrs. Opper was a former Girl Scout leader and member of the Riverdale Music Boosters, Wharton Park Board and Democratic Board of Elections. She also was a Gideon.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Wharton First Church of God with the Rev. Joe Carney officiating. Burial will be in Wharton Richland Union Cemetery, Wharton. Visitation is from 1-6 p.m. Sunday at Clark Shields Funeral Home, Forest, and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

Brenda Powers
BUCYRUS - Brenda J. Powers, Bucyrus, died Thursday morning at her residence following a two-year battle with cancer. She was 49.
Born in Bucyrus, she was a daughter of Edwin and Ellen Powers, Bucyrus; and Mary J. and Denzer Stoffer, Marion.
Mrs. Powers is survived by her parents, a son, Austin E. Haycook, Bucyrus; two brothers, Ogier Johns, Marion; and Kevin Haycook, Bucyrus; a sister, Lianne Powers, Upper Sandusky; two nieces, a great-niece and a great-nephew.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Sherri Powers.
Mrs. Powers was a 1977 graduate of Bucyrus High School. She then attended Ohio State University briefly before enlisting in the United States Army in 1979.
She had worked at the Budd Company, Carey, where she was employed for 20 years.
Mrs. Powers loved to shoot pool and play Texas Hold'em, both of which she entered many tournaments. She also loved spoiling her son.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Wise Funeral Service, Bucyrus, with the Rev. William Lamb officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Colonel Crawford Post No. 181. Visitation is from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the family and used toward the care of her son in care of Wise Funeral Service, 129 W. Warren St., Bucyrus OH 44820.
