Mary Lanning

SARASOTA, Fla. — Mary Ellen Lanning, of Sarasota, Fla., died Monday, June 11, 2012. She was 93.
Born Oct. 4, 1918, in Carey, she was a daughter of the late William E. and Hazel (Donelson) Montague. She married Wayne W. Lanning in 1936.
She is survived by a son, Stephen (Sheryl) Lanning; three grandchildren, Bradley, Wendy and Jeffrey Lanning; two stepgrandchildren, Claude and Samantha Sunderman; two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Ashley Lanning; sisters, Margaret Ann Miller, Bucyrus; and Nancy Williams, Findlay; and brother, William K. Montague, Bucyrus.
Mrs. Lanning was preceded in death by her husband; two sons; Perry and Michael Lanning; three sisters, Ruth Dotson, Charlotte Montague and Betty Johns; a stepbrother, Harold Evans; and a granddaughter, Sherrie A. Lanning.
She moved to Findlay in 1936 and was employed at LaSalles Department Store, Flower Land and started Mary Ellen’s Uniform Shop. She and her husband moved to Sarasota in 1975.
Mrs. Lanning was a member of the Findlay Chamber of Commerce, Zonta Findlay, the American Legion Auxiliary in Venice, Fla., and St. John’s United Methodist Church in Sarasota.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. August 18 in Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey.
The National Cremation Society is in charge of arrangements. Local arrangements are being handled by Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey.
