Leila C. Voorhees, age 93, of Upper Sandusky, and formerly of Nevada, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022, at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Upper Sandusky.

A funeral service for Leila is 1 p.m. Tuesday at Nevada United Methodist Church in Nevada, and will be officiated by the Revs. David Smithey and Matt Garrabrant. Burial will follow at Nevada Cemetery. Visitation is  12-1 p.m. Tuesday at the church before the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nevada UMC, Hospice of Wyandot Memorial or the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation and can be sent to Lucas-Batton at 476 S. Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.

Leila was born Nov. 25, 1928, in Dundee, New York, to the late Lynn S. and Linda A. (Crans) Miller. She married Walter A. Voorhees, Jr. on July 1, 1947, and he passed away Dec. 15, 2000.

She is survived by her children, Tim (Annabelle) Voorhees, of Adrian, Michigan; Sandy (Chuck) Stiger, of Upper Sandusky; Kathy (Mike) Hieber, of Hamilton; Mark (Kay) Voorhees, of Bucyrus; Gary (Marj) Voorhees, of Upper Sandusky; and Bonnie Voorhees of Upper Sandusky; along with nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a grandson, Jeffrey Stiger; a brother, Larry; and five sisters, Eleanor, Evelyn, Maxine, Alta and Nelda.  

Leila was active in the Nevada Methodist Church since 1952. She led Sunday school there for many years and continued to teach the youth of Nevada for many more years after that. She was also on many committees and groups throughout the years, including Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, where she served as a scout leader. She also was in the church choir. She loved to sing all the hymns.  

Her hobbies included gardening and quilting, where she made dozens of quilts throughout the years.
