CAREY — Janice A. Phillips, formerly of Carey and more recently of Birchaven Heights Independent Living for the past four years, died at 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 8, 2012 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay. She was 79.
Born July 14, 1932 in Wyandot County, she was a daughter of the late Garfield and Anna Elizabeth (Mitchell) Tong. She married Paul E. Phillips on April 17, 1954 and he preceded her in death on February 19, 1998.
Surviving are her children, Jeffrey P. (Sandra) Phillips, of Fremont; and Janeen E. (Kevin) Hennessy, of Chesapeake; three grandchildren, Andrew Hennessy, Nathan Hennessy and Holly Phillips; and a sister, Joan Hardee of Venice, Fla.
Preceding her in death were six brothers:,Gerald, Bill, Dean, Bob, Clifford and Donald Tong; and a sister, Oread Phillips.
A 1950 graduate of Carey High School, she retired in 1999 as the food service manager for the Carey Public Schools after 33 years of service.
She was of the Methodist faith.
Mrs. Phillips enjoyed fishing on Lake Erie, gardening, reading and putting together puzzles.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, with Rev. Penny Magee officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Bloom Cemetery near Vanlue. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home
Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Phillips’ name to Bridge Home Health and Hospice in care of Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey OH. 43316.
