CAREY — Donald V. Niederkohr, of rural Carey, died at 7:12 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012 at Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University, Columbus. He was 77.
Born Aug. 4, 1934 in Carey, he was a son of the late William and Laura (Theis) Niederkohr. He married Catherine E. Connolly on Nov. 6, 1965 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Findlay, and she survives in Carey.
Also surviving are three children Joanie (Ron) Alkire and Andy Niederkohr, both of Carey; and Theresa (Brian) Mundy, Upper Sandusky; five grandchildren, Tori Mundy, Ashley Niederkohr, Josh Mundy, Alexis Mundy and Jacob Alkire; and two sisters, Rita (Pat) Logsdon, Upper Sandusky; and Irma Hill, Carey.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Mildred Arend, Alma Karcher, Marie Niederkohr, Louise Orians and Ruth Snyder; and five brothers, Albert, Loen, Leonard, Bernard and John.
Mr. Niederkohr was a 1952 graduate of Carey High School. He retired in 1991 from construction, working for Niederkohr Brothers Construction and Niederkohr Construction in Upper Sandusky.
He was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of the former St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salem Township and was a member of the Salem Heritage Society.
Mr. Niederkohr was a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 1925.
He enjoyed bowling, mushroom hunting, riding his golf cart, raising deer from the bottle, farming and livestock auctions in Bucyrus. He loved spoiling his grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Salem Township near Upper Sandusky. There will be no visitation.
