SYCAMORE — Connie Jane Hendricks Aurand died Wednesday May, 30, 2012. She was 65.
Born Nov. 9, 1946, she was a daughter of Robert W. and Martha J. (Wagner) Hendricks. She married her high school sweetheart, Ronald E. Aurand, on Aug. 3, 1968 and built a life with him at 1254 CH 36, Sycamore. They became the proud parents of Tom E. (Halle Mohrman) Aurand, of Sycamore; and Cyndi (Doug) Miller, of Bloomville.
Surviving besides her husband and children are her father, Robert W. (Rachel Wright) Hendricks; a brother, Michael W. (Brenda) Hendricks; and five grandchildren, LeAnna and Devon Aurand and Shay, Atlee and Landon Miller.
She was preceded in death by her mother and mentor, Martha Jane Wagner Hendricks.
Mrs. Aurand graduated from Mohawk High School in 1965 as salutatorian and continued her education by earning a bachelor’s degree in 1968 from Bowling Green State University. She began teaching immediately and spent her entire career as a junior high teacher at Mohawk Local Schools. She worked in both the reading and math departments for 35-plus years. After she retired, she so loved teaching that she continued working as a substitute teacher for Mohawk, Carey, Seneca East and Upper Sandusky. Other job adventures that Mrs. Aurand tackled were a Wyandot County swim instructor for the Sycamore and Upper Sandusky pools, Pamida and endlessly spoiling her beloved grandchildren.
When Mrs. Aurand wasn’t teaching, she was participating as a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, of McCutchenville; the Sycamore American Legion Auxiliary, the Mohawk Young Farm Wives, the former William Myers Chapter No. 196, of McCutchenville; the Wyandot County Junior Fair Board and the Wyandot Squares square-dancing Club. She also enjoyed baking, sewing, gardening, working on the computer and taking care of her family.
Mrs. Aurand’s life and memorial services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Church of Christ, McCutchenville, with Pastor David Hendricks and the Rev. David Jones officiating. The final resting of the ashes will be placed at Seneca Memory Gardens. Visitation hours will be held from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore.
A special tribute, specifically for a Mohawk student furthering his or her college education, can be made to the “Connie Aurand Educational Scholarship Fund” in care of Walton-Moore Funeral Home, PO Box 350, Sycamore OH 44882.
