The 12-member women’s vocal ensemble was founded in 1990 by the late Marilyn Walter. The women, who were in the nun’s chorus of the Star Players community theater production of “The Sound of Music” in Upper Sandusky, discovered they enjoyed singing together and wanted to continue to do so; hence, the formation of the group, The Sounds of Music.
The group appeared at local festivals, churches and community events in the early 1990s, but in recent has have concentrated on a repertoire of contemporary Christian, gospel and inspirational songs. The Sounds of Music group now almost exclusively appear in churches and does a summer tour.  Its program includes music accompanied by piano and a capella.
Membership in the ensemble now includes women who were not part of “The Sound of Music” cast, with two of the original nuns remaining. This summer marks the group’s 22nd anniversary.
