Marion Popcorn Festival to host Poppin’ Pooch pageant

MARION — The Marion Popcorn Festival’s Poppin’ Pooch Pageant will take place at 2 p.m. July 21 at Yancey Clinic of Veterinary Medicine, located at 1097 Mount Vernon Ave., Marion.
Dogs will compete in four categories: sportswear, Western wear, popcorn wear and a two-minute trick performance. All dogs must be on a leash.
The entry fee is $25 prior to July 11 and includes a souvenir T-shirt for the dog.   Entries received after July 11 will be $20.

Celebrating its 32nd year, the Marion Popcorn Festival is the largest popcorn festival in the world with an annual attendance estimated in excess of 250,000 during the three-day festival. Other events include a popcorn cooking contest, a fine arts show, crafts, Popcorn 5000 5K run, Popcorn 100 bike tour, a community showcase stage and more.
Main stage entertainment for 2012 includes The Ultimate Journey Xperience, a Journey tribute band on Sept. 6, country sensation Josh Thompson on Sept. 7 and Boyz II Men on Saturday, Sept. 8.
