Hot Air Buffoons part of Evening of Barbershop

The Hot Air Buffoons, a comedy quartet, will take the stage at the Star Theatre’s annual Evening of Barbershop benefit concert on Saturday. The Buffoons are William “Veal” Baughman, Harry Hafflet, Mark Lang and Randy “Beef” Baughman. Tickets can be reserved by calling the Star Theatre box office at 419-294-1411.

Barbershop harmony will return to the Star Theatre at 7 p.m. Saturday as the community theater holds its fourth annual Evening of Barbershop.
This annual concert is held to raise money for the local theater’s scholarship fund. This year’s lineup of quartets includes Maverick, The Hot Air Buffoons and The Allies.  Each of these quartets competed last month in the annual Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Competition, which only qualifies the top 50 quartets in the world.
The Hot Air Buffoons will appear at the Star for the first time. The group first weighed in back in 1996. They set out on a quest to sing well and entertain audiences in a fashion never seen before.
They soon surprised themselves and others by not only making people laugh but by progressing in the competition realm as well. They excelled in a competition that was made for them and took home gold medals and a first-place trophy in the 2001 internationally renowned Buckeye Invitational Comedy Quartet Competition in Columbus.
They have continued in the competition realm and are the 2005 Johnny Appleseed District Champions. The Buffoons also have competed internationally and have been ranked in the top 50 quartets in the world for eight years running, ranked as high as 16th two of those years.
Despite success in the competition venue, the quartet’s true love is to entertain. The Buffoons have performed for a number of audiences. They just ask one thing:  Do not make fun of the fat guy.
The concert will feature each quartet individually and conclude with a combined number.
