MARION — Bethlehem Dance Education and Ministry Arts is offering ballroom and modern/ballet classes by Sam Walker.
Walker, 29, born in Derby, England, is a certified ballroom instructor. He has been teaching modern, jazz and hip hop in Marion at Bethlehem Dance Education and Ministry Arts for four years.
Walker studied at Newcastle Performance Academy. His training includes an HND in musical theatre plus a BA (hons) in contemporary dance. His experience ranges from site-specific, video dance works and aerial dance.
In 2004, Walker toured with a show called “Swing Fever” throughout northern England. Walker’s classes aim to improve strength, flexibility, co-ordination, creativity, body awareness and performance. They aim to be fun and challenging, equipping people with knowledge to keep their bodies fit, healthy and to increase their own individual strengths.
“Dance has always been a joy to me,” Walker said. “It’s a way of glorifying and worshipping God. Dance gives me a great sense of energy when allowing my body to move and explore the possibilities that God has enabled us to find.”
Ballroom classes are 6-7 p.m. Saturdays through the month of July. No jeans or street shoes are permitted. The cost is $80 per couple for the month.
Modern/ballet will be offered from 7:15-8:45 p.m. Saturdays through July for $60 per student. Participants must have minimum of two years of dance training.
Walker will teach both sessions. All classes are conducted at Bethlehem Dance Education and Ministry Arts at 645 East Church St., Marion. Checks can be sent to
BDE&MA at this address. Call Vikki at 740-726-2244 for more information.
