Barbershop returning to Star

Maverick

Maverick will be one of the quartets performing at the Star Theatre’s annual “Evening of Barbershop” benefit concert set for Aug. 18 in Upper Sandusky. The members of Maverick are Josh Van Gorder, Jonathan Zimmerman, Mike Hull and Dave Jarrell.

Barbershop quartets will return to the Star Theatre stage Aug. 18.
The annual concert benefits the local theater’s scholarship program. All three of the quartets slated to take the stage qualified for this year’s Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Competition, which only qualifies the top 50 quartets in the world.
One of the quartets participating in the benefit is Maverick, the 2010 Johnny Appleseed district quartet champions. Formed late in 2009, Josh Van Gorder, Jonathan Zimmerman, Mike Hull and Dave Jarrell decided that this foursome would be a match. Along with their own individual vocal backgrounds, each man brings something special to the group. Together they have performed more than 600 shows with a combined total more than 45 years of barbershop singing. The group aims to entertain with its singing and comic relief.
Rounding out the show will be The Hot Air Buffoons, a comedy quartet from northwest and northeastern Ohio, and The Allies, an international medalist quartet.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. featuring each quartet individually and concluding with a combined number.
Refreshments will be provided by Special Occasions Catering. Tickets are $15 each and can be reserved by calling the Star Theatre box office at 419-294-1411. All seating is reserved.
