Falcons’ Loveridge hits 7 3s, scores 29

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Alec Loveridge was feeling it Friday night in Riverdale’s 57-42 victory over Blanchard Valley Conference foe Vanlue, and he put his name toward the top of the record books. Loveridge now is tied with 2012 graduate Gage Hankins for the second- most 3-point baskets in a single game in Riverdale boys basketball history with seven.

MARION — Seven Upper Sandusky wrestlers are into the semifinals as Upper Sandusky leads the Sally George Invitational after one day of action Friday at Pleasant. Matt Luikart (113 pounds), Brayzin McDaniel (120), Brandon Derr (152), Noah Clary (160), Noah Frey (182), Connor Johnston (220) and Shane Pack (285) all are assured of placing with spots in the semifinals.

LIMA — Four Carey wrestlers are through to the quarterfinals of their weight classes after day one of the Lima Central Catholic Thunderbird Invitational wrestling tournament. Mechanicsburg is a 77-66.5 leader over Swanton for first place.

Warriors 2-2 at D-III Duals

SANDUSKY — Parker Brown went 4-0 with four pins at 160 pounds to lead Mohawk on day one of Division III duals at St. Mary Central Catholic. The Warriors handled Hopewell-Loudon, 51-12, and narrowly topped Norwayne, 31-22.

Despite an unlucky shooting night, Upper Sandusky stayed in control in a 74-65 win over Tiffin Columbian at home Thursday night to improve to 15-0. Wes Vent had 29 points on 11-of-21 shooting and 11 rebounds. The Rams came in averaging nine made 3-pointers per game on a 40 percent clip. Thursday, they collectively shot 6 of 23 from long range (26 percent).

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The Riverdale Lady Falcons saw a 16-point third quarter lead disappear as McComb held them to just four points in the fourth, taking the 59-56 Blanchard Valley Conference win over the host Falcons on Thursday night. According to Riverdale coach Maryann Holderman, the key difference in the game came from the free throw line, where her team was just 2 of 2 on the night but surrendered 15 second-half points alone and 18 in the game.

Wynford tops Upper in girls junior high

Kaycee Smith scored 12 points to lead Wynford to a 38-23 victory against Upper Sandusky in an eighth grade girls basketball game Thursday. Lyndie Williams scored 10 points for the Royals, and Felicity Etzinger scored eight points. Mia Leuthold and Alex Mills had six points each. Allison Scott added two points.

Though none of them were on the high school team at the time, many of Upper Sandusky’s wrestlers remember — and many went to watch — when the Rams went to the state dual tournament in 2013. Now, the Rams are a step closer to making that a reality of their own after winning home regional quarterfinal matches, 59-9 against Highland and 48-18 against Bexley on Wednesday evening.
