Carey locks down in 2nd quarter of win against Buckeye Central

CAREY — After eight minutes, Carey found itself battling an upstart Buckeye Central squad. The Blue Devils then locked down on defense and did not allow a field goal for almost 11 minutes of game time. Offensively, Cody Luzader led three Carey players in double digits with 17 points as the Blue Devils cruised to a 72-57 Northern 10 Athletic Conference win over the Bucks on Thursday.

Widcats use balance to defeat Falcons

RICHWOOD — North Union used a balanced scoring attack to take a 69-46 victory against Riverdale in a nonconference boys basketball game Thursday night. Led by Mason Soviak’s 18 points, seven different players for the Wildcats scored at least 6 points.

CAREY — With his team trailing Carey by 11 points in the second quarter, Buckeye Central girls basketball coach Greg Moore knew exactly what adjustments to make. Moore switched the Bucks’ defense from a 1-3-1 zone to a man to man with a press and used pick and rolls and screens on offense to enable leading scorers Jenna Karl and Courtney Pifher to get more open looks.

3rd annual NW district indoor meet Jan. 19

FINDLAY — The third annual Northwest Ohio District Indoor Track and Field Invitational will be held Jan. 19 at the Malcom Athletic Center inside the Koehler Fitness and Recreation Complex at the University of Findlay. There will be awards for champion and runner-up teams.

Upper athletes to get passes for all events

The Upper Sandusky Athletic Boosters has announced the creation of the Jim Morrison Athletic Pass. All student-athletes who participated in a spring or fall sport, or are currently participating in a winter sport will receive the pass that will be good for the remainder of the school year.
