Rams’ Ham qualifies for regionals

OAK HARBOR — Upper Sandusky’s Dylan Ham qualified for regional competition, and teammate Joey Verdugo just missed joining him Wednesday in the first day of Division II track and field district competition at Oak Harbor. Ham finished third in the shot put with a throw of 51-4.5. The top four placers in each event advance to next week’s regionals.

FINDLAY — When senior Blayc Hacker transferred to Carey to play softball, she brought lofty goals of trying to accomplish everything last season’s team accomplished, most notably, a deep tournament run. After her performance on Wednesday, she and her teammates are one step closer to achieving that goal.

Rams finish over .500 with shutout of Tigers

ATTICA — Alivia Oney threw a two-hitter and hit three singles at the plate to lead Upper Sandusky to a 6-0 win to close out the season Wednesday in Northern 10 Athletic Conference softball play. With the win, the Rams (12-11, 9-7 N10) finished above .500 both overall and in the league and ahead of the Tigers (12-9, 8-8 N10) for fourth place in the standings.

Bucyrus wins to get title share

BUCYRUS — Cayleigh Rister threw a one-hitter as Bucyrus topped Wynford, 7-0, to clinch a share of the Northern 10 Athletic Conference softball championship Wednesday at Bucyrus. The Redmen (16-6, 13-3 N10) split the league championship with Carey (19-6, 13-3 N10).

SHELBY — Mohawk’s offense has been on fire, and no one has been hotter than first baseman Tess Weinandy. The sophomore slugged a key three-run home run in the third inning to lead the way in the Warriors’ 10-3 victory against top-seeded Monroeville in a Division IV district semifinal game Tuesday at Shelby.

Local players selected for All-Star game

Seven local high school baseball players will join 11 others on the Wyandot/Crawford County Team in the District 9 All-Star Game. The Wyandot/Crawford County Team will face the Richland County Team in the District 9 All-Star Game at 7 p.m. May 29 at the Sports Force Parks/Cedar Point Sports Center.

USMS pole vaulters place in state meet

LANCASTER — Both of Upper Sandusky Middle School’s state-qualifying pole vaulters placed this weekend in the OHSAA 7th and 8th Grade State Track and Field Champions in Lancaster. Eighth-grader Kendra Conley cleared 9-0 to finish in sixth place in the girls competition.

Seneca East tops Upper, 4-1, clinches title share

ATTICA — With the Northern 10 Athletic Conference baseball championship on the line, Seneca East had its ace on the mound and he delivered. Bo Smith gave up an unearned run on four hits and three walks with five strikeouts — lowering his ERA to 0.11 — to lead the Tigers to a 4-1 victory against Upper Sandusky that makes them N10 co-champions with Carey.

Wynford holds on for 7-5 win over Bucyrus

BUCYRUS — Wynford scored five runs in the fourth inning to build a six-run lead and then held on for a 7-5 victory against Bucyrus in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference baseball game Saturday. The Royals (10-13, 7-9 N10) scored once each in the first and second innings and won their third straight game.
