Carey players named All-Ohioans

CAREY — Another year, another All-Ohio honor. Carey High School’s Hailey Niederkohr was named first-team All-Ohio as a sophomore, a year after she was named to the second-team All-Ohio list as a freshman.

The Upper Sandusky High School athletic department recently honored 37 student-athletes who participated in three sports during the 2017-18 school year. Each athlete was rewarded with a “Triple Crown Athlete” T-shirt for their contribution to the school’s athletic department.

Carey’s Bame, Roark lead All-DC-U team

All-Daily Chief-Union baseball 2018

One more time, Carey’s Trey Bame and coach Joey Roark earned top honors and did so unanimously as player and coach of the year, respectively, on the All-Daily Chief-Union baseball team. The pair earned the same honors on both the All-Northern 10 Athletic Conference and All-District 9 baseball teams.

Oler wins 800 championship

COLUMBUS — Mohawk had never had a state champion in an individual running event. But a little more than two minutes after the state final of the girls 800 run at the state track and field meet began Saturday at Ohio State University’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, it finally happened.

Watson finishes 6th in 400 dash

COLUMBUS — Having raced the 100 and 200 dashes in the past, Wynford junior Alizhah Watson never would have guessed he would finish in the top six in the state in the 400 dash in upcoming seasons. But despite his inexperience in the race, an injury suffered midway through the 2018 season and the fact that the 400 dash was not his favorite race, Watson embraced his new event late this season.

Mullholand takes 3rd in state

COLUMBUS — Neither the fact it was her first appearance at the state track and field meet nor a lightning delay of approximately 1.5 hours prevented Mohawk freshman Taeylor Mullholand from getting on the podium in the Division III high jump.

COLUMBUS — Amber Nash and her senior Carey teammates Tara Gibson and Emily Norden never will forget their senior year of track and field. “Incredible,” Nash said when asked what it was like to qualify for the state track and field meet as a senior.
