Carey’s Sarah Reinhart and Upper Sandusky’s Troy Mawer earned the top honors on the All-Daily Chief-Union cross country team as runners of the year, while Riverdale’s Kim Rall was named coach of the year. Reinhart, a freshman, was the top girls runner this season, posting a season average race time of 20:27.

Four Upper Sandusky competition cheerleading squads competed at the Oak Harbor Cheerleading Invitational last weekend. Not only did every squad — the Tiny Rams, Mini Rams, Little Rams and junior high — win first place in their individual division, but the Rams also earned the Nancy Leaser award for the highest school district average.

The Dafne Bianchi Cheer Spectacular was held Sunday at Upper Sandusky Middle School with 28 teams competing. Event organizer Katie Taylor spoke to open in the opening ceremony, followed by Jack Bianchi, the father of the late Dafne Bianchi.

Since she was in middle school, Upper Sandusky senior Kenedi Hayden has wanted to run track in college. Beginning next school year, that dream will become a reality.

The Upper Sandusky football team recently announced its letter winners at the awards banquet.

Eight area players were named first-team All-Northwest district in football, and 16 more were named to the second team or given honorable mention. Mohawk’s Zach Hayman, Cole Zender and Bryce Kirian, Carey’s Jacob Boes and Adam Hackworth, Wynford’s Gavin Leffler and Seth Benedict and Riverdale’s Alec Loveridge all were voted by a media panel to the first team.

Mohawk’s Madi Chester and Eric Hoover took top honors on the All-Daily Chief-Union volleyball team with Chester being voted the player of the year and Hoover the coach of the year. Chester, a senior outside hitter, also was the Northern 10 Athletic Conference player of the year, an all-district first-team selection and an All-Ohio second-team pick.

HEBRON — Temperatures in the low 30s with winds steadily gusting around 15 mph and a muddy course are not considered ideal running conditions. And heading into her first appearance at the state cross country meet at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Carey freshman Sarah Reinhart was nervous.

It’s been quite a career. Throughout the years that Upper Sandusky native Rosemary Austin has played on travel softball teams that include Golden Gals and Freedom Spirit, a 75 and older softball team, she has garnered 14 gold medals, 12 sliver medals, two bronze medals, one ribbon, seven All-American awards as well as two all-tournament and one best defensive player, seven plaques, nine patches and one cup.
