Adults need to stop behaving like kids

Inappropriate adult behavior at high school athletic events in Ohio has reached epidemic proportion. When more than 2,000 high school athletic directors were asked in a recent national survey what they like least about their job, 62.3% said it was “dealing with aggressive parents and adult fans.”

Riverdale takes 1st set but falls in 4

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale took the opening set but Van Buren finished strong to win 21-25, 25-20, 25-14, 25-14 in Blanchard Valley Conference volleyball action Wednesday night. Grace Wetherill had three aces, 10 kills and four blocks to lead the Falcons (2-12, 1-7 BVC).

Solander hits 3rd hole-in-one

George Solander had a hole-in-one last week at Lincoln Hills Golf Club. It came on the par-3 137-yard hole No. 8 with an 8-iron. Witnesses were Gary Shied and Marc Hart. It was Solander’s third hole-in-one.

Upper to have senior citizen night at match

The Upper Sandusky High School athletic department has announced Oct. 3 is Senior Citizen Night as the Rams face Seneca East in junior varsity and varsity volleyball, beginning at 5:30 p.m. All senior citizens will receive free admission to both matches and a coupon to get free water and popcorn from the concession stand.

USHS wall mats up for auction until Friday

The Upper Sandusky High School athletic department is having a silent auction for the two wall mats that recently were replaced at each end of the high school gym. Bids will be accepted in the USHS athletic office until Friday. The highest bidder will receive both mats. Bidding starts at $500. Proceeds from the sale go toward the purchase of athletic equipment for the district.

Upper’s Gier posts 96 in sectional

FOSTORIA — Upper Sandusky freshman Liv Gier’s 96 led area players in the Division II sectional girls golf tournament Tuesday at Fostoria Country Club. Short-handed Upper Sandusky nonetheless finished 12th with a 482. The Rams played without seniors Katie Clark, MacKenzie Kidwell and Olivia Barth. Mohawk finished ninth with a 452.

It’s been four years since the Upper Sandusky volleyball team defeated arch rival Carey. But with three players tallying at least eight kills, three with at least 10 digs and a server who was 16 of 16, the Rams downed the Blue Devils 25-20, 25-22, 25-14 on Tuesday at Upper Sandusky, snapping a seven-match losing streak to the Blue Devils.

Wynford’s Schiefer misses spot in districts by 1 stroke

GALION — Wynford’s Caity Schiefer missed district qualifying by one stroke as Wynford finished in fifth place Tuesday in Division II sectional girls golf play at Valley View Golf Course. The top three teams and the top three individuals from non-qualifying teams earned a spot in next week’s district tournament. Schiefer shot a 100, with the final district spot going to Colonel Crawford’s Mariah Cotsamire with a 99.

SYCAMORE — Mohawk rallied from late deficits in the first and third sets and swept Colonel Crawford 25-22, 25-6, 25-22 in Northern 10 Athletic Conference volleyball action Tuesday night at Mohawk. The Warriors (10-4, 7-3 N10) trailed 21-19 in the opening set and 22-17 in the third set.
