Falcons pull away late in 2nd half

With less than 30 minutes remaining, Thursday’s contest between Upper Sandusky and Riverdale was just a one-goal match. Then, Riverdale took over. The Falcons ripped off four goals in less than 17 minutes to run away with a 6-1 win over Upper Sandusky in girls North Central Ohio Soccer Association action at Upper Sandusky.

GALION — Riverdale’s Andrew Kuenzli earned a spot in the district tournament, finishing as sectional medalist runner-up Thursday in Division III tournament action at Valley View Golf Course. Kuenzli shot a 39 on both the front and back nines to finish with a 78. Bucyrus’ Reece Zeigler posted the top score of 76.

Unbeaten Riverdale defeats Upper 5-2

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Despite a loss, Upper Sandusky had one of its strongest showings of the year, dropping a 5-2 boys soccer decision to undefeated Riverdale on Thursday night at Riverdale. Jaidyn Thiel scored a pair of second-half goals as a Falcons team that came in with seven shutouts and had given up just six goals total in 10 previous matches.

Carey finishes 4th at Sycamore Springs

ARLINGTON — Carey’s Ethan Tanner finished as medalist runner-up in Division III sectional golf play Thursday at Sycamore Springs Golf Course and is moving on to district play next week. Tanner shot a 40 on the front nine, followed by a 41 on the back to finish with an 81. That was topped only by Allen East’s Zach Miller with a 77.

KALIDA — Brett Montgomery was sectional champion for the third year in a row, and Upper Sandusky advanced to districts for the second straight season with a runner-up team finish Thursday in the Division II district boys golf tournament at Moose Landing Country Club.

Rams win 3-set matches 4 times

It took three sets in four matches but Upper Sandusky earned its first 5-0 victory of the season, defeating Bucyrus in girls tennis action Thursday at Upper Sandusky. “We didn’t play as sharp as we would have liked, but a win is a win,” Upper Sandusky coach Aaron Frazee said. “We have things to work on headed into the sectional tournament.”

Wynford completes perfect week

NORTH ROBINSON — Wynford completed a perfect 3-0 week by rallying to beat Colonel Crawford 15-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-18, 15-10 in Northern 10 Athletic Conference volleyball action Thursday night in North Robinson. The Royals (9-8, 7-5 N10) had sweeps against Bucyrus and Ridgedale on Monday and Tuesday, but things were not as easy Thursday.

Crall leads Royals at Sawmill Creek

HURON — Up to Division II in boys golf for the first time, Wynford finished 12th with a 421 in the sectional golf tournament Thursday at Sawmill Creek Golf and Racquet Club. Galion was the team champion with a 340-346 advantage over Perkins, with Bellevue edging Shelby for the final of three district spots 368-369.

Riverdale’s Weber, Collier win home dual

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale swept the first-place finishes Thursday in a modified dual cross country meet with Cory-Rawson at Riverdale. With all runners only completing 2 miles, the Falcons’ Juleigha Collier was the girls winner in 13:58, and Eli Weber took first for the boys in 11:21.

Upper wins 3rd straight N10 match

MORRAL — Upper Sandusky extended its Northern 10 Athletic Conference volleyball winning streak to three by rallying from a 2-1 deficit to beat Ridgedale on the road 25-23, 13-25, 17-25, 25-19, 15-11 on Thursday night. Reagan Ward led the attack for the Rams (6-10, 5-6 N10) with 12 kills. Sydney Stuckman and Emily Hill had seven kills each, with Hill also going 13 of 13 serving and finishing with 13 digs.
