TIFFIN — The Upper Sandusky Black Marlins summer swim teams defeated the Tiffin YMCA to open the season Wednesday at Harrison Smith Park.
The Black Marlins girls defeated Tiffin, 238-112, while the boys were 223-76 winners.
Highway 101 rolled to a 12-1 victory against Positive Image in a girls slowpitch softball game Friday.
Carey’s Teresa Gillig and Hailey Niederkohr earned top honors on the All-Daily Chief-Union team, while Upper Sandusky placed the most players on the team with six plus two honorable mention selections.
Gillig repeated as coach of the year, and the freshman Niederkohr was voted player of the year.
Upper Sandusky resident John Joseph recently was inducted as a contributor to the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame.
As the owner of Shoot-A-Way, Joseph has sold more than 10,000 Shoot-A-Ways across the country and more than 21,000 “Guns” are being used by schools to help improve their shooting faster since it was created in 1998.

Tyler Leist and Sarah Rall were the top male and female finishers, respectively, in the St. Peter’s 5K Glow Run on Saturday.
Leist was the overall winner, finishing in 19:27, while Rall finished sixth overall in 22:15.
Mohawk’s Austin Harper and Eric Hoover repeated top honors on the All-Daily Chief-Union baseball team.
Harper was tabbed player of the year for the second straight season, while Hoover was coach of the year again.

Wyanstock 2017 will rock the Wyandot County Fairgrounds on July 1. This is the fourth year for the 12-hour music festival put on by Wyandot County Young Professionals.
The schedule is jam-packed with bands, food, drinks, vendors selling arts and wares, a cornhole tournament and a meat smoking competition from noon to midnight. Camping sites are available June 30 and July 1.
