USMS wrestling tournament to raise trip funds

Upper Sandusky Middle School will host an area wrestling tournament with proceeds going toward the eighth grade trip to Washington, D.C. Wrestlers up to age 14 are eligible to compete in the inaugural Cory Washburn Memorial Tournament at 10 a.m. March 13.

Rams boys, girls 2nd in N10 Invite

NORTH ROBINSON — Upper Sandusky came up short in its bid to be named the best team in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference, but it continued to close the gap Saturday at Colonel Crawford. The Eagles boys and girls won the Northern 10 Invitational, though no conference champion is being named this year because only four schools in the league have teams.

Wynford stays hot, beats Mohawk

BUCYRUS — Wynford is on quite a run, and it put together a few of them in a 76-54 victory against Mohawk on Saturday night. Winners of five straight, the Royals had stretches of 10 straight points in the first half and nine consecutive in the second half.

Upper runs past Seneca East

Double team

In its first game as a top 10 team in Division II, Upper Sandusky did not mess around. The Rams, who were ranked ninth in the Jan. 25 AP poll, scored 19 straight first-quarter points in a 79-35 rout of Seneca East on Saturday to stay unbeaten at 16-0.

Temple Christian rallies

MT. BLANCHARD — Riverdale failed to string together its first pair of wins, dropping a close non-league game to Mansfield Temple Christian, 66-63, on Saturday. The Falcons led 23-11 after the first quarter, but they were outscored in each of the final three quarters.

Blue Devils get top seed in district

Carey earned a No. 1 seed, and Upper Sandusky and Riverdale both were seeded third in their girls basketball districts released Sunday. In Division IV, the Blue Devils (17-0) took a first-round bye and will take on the winner of No. 10 Vanlue (3-12) and No. 12 Maumee Valley Country Day (2-15) in the sectional finals to be played at 6:15 p.m. Feb. 20 at Eastwood.

Luzader hits 8 3-pointers in Carey rout

CAREY — Cody Luzader knocked down eight 3-pointers and scored 30 points to lead Carey to a 91-43 non-conference rout of Vanlue on Saturday night. Abel LaRoche added a pair of 3-pointers and scored 12 points, and Trey Bame hit three 3-pointers and scored 11 points.

Upper finishes half-point out of 1st place

MARION — Thurston Dyer and Connor Johnston won championships, but Springfield edged Upper Sandusky by a half-point for first place in the Sally George Invitational on Saturday at Marion. The Blue Devils finished with 164.5 points, and the Rams scored 164.
