ELIDA — Carey was overmatched against a bigger, faster Bluffton team. Early on it held its own. Very early on. Sixth-seeded Bluffton turned an 18-13 first-quarter lead into a 47-19 halftime advantage and stayed on the gas through the second half of a 99-34 win in a Division III sectional semifinal Wednesday.

LEXINGTON – Wynford has won some games with its outside shooting, but on Wednesday night, the Royals won in the paint. Led by James Ort’s 18 points and 13 rebounds, the Royals dominated inside, taking a 66-52 victory against Mansfield Christian in a Division IV sectional semifinal game at Lexington.

FINDLAY — After Hopewell-Loudon had a 13-2 run to end the first quarter, Mohawk found itself in an uphill battling to get back to even footing with the Chieftain’s in Wednesday’s Division IV sectional basketball contest at Findlay High School.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida women’s golf team, coached by Upper Sandusky High School graduate Emily Bastel Glaser, won its third tournament of the season Tuesday, taking the title at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in New Orleans. The nationally 11th-ranked Gators had four players finish in the top 25 in the 17-team field with a 54-hole score of 2-under par 862, one stroke better than No. 13 Oklahoma State.

ISTANBUL, Turkey — Upper Sandusky High School graduate Jon Diebler continues to shoot with the best of them in Europe. The former Ohio State University star who is the Big Ten’s all-time leader in 3-pointers has made 48.8 percent of his 3-point tries against the top teams in Europe in Euroleague play.

Carey won the Northern 10 Athletic Conference freshman boys basketball tournament by beating Colonel Crawford in the championship game Monday at Carey. TIFFIN — Angeline used a big third quarter to defeat the Huron County Christie Lane Bears, 53-40, in a tournament game Saturday at the Seneca County School of Opportunity in Tiffin. Angeline (8-5) trailed 19-14 at halftime before outscoring Christie Lane, 29-9, in the third quarter to take a 15-point lead into the fourth quarter.

Upper Sandusky Middle School will host a spring sports parent meeting at 5 p.m. March 3 in the Union School auditorium. Individual sports meetings for boys and girls track and field will follow.

Pre-sale tickets for Upper Sandusky’s girls basketball team’s Division II district semifinal game against Bellevue will be on sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and Wednesday in the Upper Sandusky High School athletic office and from 5-7 p.m. today and 3:30-5 p.m. Wednesday in the USHS main office.
