Upper gets $238,000 grant for fire truck

The burden on Upper Sandusky taxpayers for a fire truck upgrade was just reduced drastically. City auditor Mark Droll announced at last night’s council meeting that the United States Department of Agriculture had approved a grant-loan package to help cover the cost of a 2012 Pierce 100-foot SkyArm Arrow XT ladder truck, which the city agreed to purchase for $680,000 in late July.

Carey holds moment of silence for former councilwoman Kurtz

CAREY — Carey Council opened its regular meeting Monday by dedicating its regular moment of silence in honor of the late Lois Kurtz. Kurtz died Aug. 11 at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. She was 63. She was a longtime council member in addition to serving on the Carey Post Office, Carey Emergency Medical Services and Carey Kiwanis. She was the owner of Kurtz Shoe Store.

Veterans memorial unveiled

MOUNT BLANCHARD — A veterans memorial was dedicated at 10 a.m. Saturday during a special ceremony at the annual Heritage Days Festival in Mount Blanchard. Mayor Cynthia Morrison led the ceremony, which kicked off with the national anthem sung by Upper Sandusky history teacher Bill Miller and an appearance from the Marine Corps League of Findlay.
