CAREY — Carey Exempted Village Schools will once again ask voters to renew a five-year, 1 percent income tax renewal levy on the Nov. 6 ballot. The five-year, 1 percent income tax levy was originally passed by voters in November 2004, was renewed in November 2008 and again in May 2014.

It may be small wonder that Education Secretary Betsy DeVos’s yacht was vandalized here in our state. Ohio’s college students face the largest aggregate debt of anywhere in the country. We are 45th in college affordability. As a mentor to young people for over 15 years, these matters concern me deeply.

An astounding number of Americans, no matter our political views, agree that we are tired of big corporations and special interests controlling our government. Most Congressional 5th District residents aren’t millionaires but want to make a good living and have a good life. The influence of money in politics ensures that power stays in the hands of only the richest Americans, leaving the rest of us to hope that someone is looking out for our interests.

Dear editor, Nov. 6 will find the citizens of this state facing the decision of whether to adopt proposed Issue 1 as an amendment to the Ohio Constitution. At the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office, we are mindful of and wish to share with the citizens of Wyandot County our concerns about some of the dangers Issue 1 presents to our community and the state of Ohio.

The Wyandot County Council on Aging hosted a pumpkin carving party Thursday with the Daily Chief-Union’s Brian Hemminger. Over a dozen pumpkins, big and small, were carved with designs ranging from smiling faces to black cats, bats, ghosts, skulls and more. The Wyandot Classics and Cruisers made a massive $25,500 donation to Hospice of Wyandot County following a banquet Thursday evening at Fairhaven Community. The money was raised from the 2018 Autumn Cruise in Upper Sandusky.
