The Upper Sandusky FFA recently attended the 88th national FFA convention. All the Wyandot County chapters, including Mohawk, Carey and Riverdale, traveled together to Louisville, Kentucky.

COLUMBUS — Deer hunting is a popular activity for sportsmen and women statewide and Ohio’s white-tailed deer continue to provide hunters across the state with excellent opportunities for success as they head out into the field, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The FFA chapter from Riverdale High School will be showcased Saturday through Monday on “This Week In AgriBusiness,” a weekly, one-hour television agri-news program hosted by two of the country’s most well-known farm broadcasters, Max Armstrong and Orion Samuelson.

LUCAS — A team of FFA students from Upper Sandusky High School placed second in the state at the soil judging contest Oct. 17 near Malabar Farm in Richland County to qualify for the national contest in Oklahoma in May.

Thirty-nine first-year Upper Sandusky FFA members recently attended greenhand camp with four counselors and the chapter adviser. In addition to Upper Sandusky FFA members, greenhand members from Mohawk, Carey and Riverdale also attended.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Students from the Riverdale FFA competed in the Hardin Northern Soils Invite, district and county contests. Two Riverdale teams competed in the rural soil judging contest, taking 51st and 54th place.

The Upper Sandusky FFA team took 13th place out of 38 teams and 244 individuals in the state forestry career development event Oct. 3 at Hocking College, Nelsonville. This is the second year Upper Sandusky has participated in the forestry CDE and all the members did well, adviser Anna Creswell said in a press release.

U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency State Executive Director Steven Maurer is reminding agricultural producers that FSA provides a receipt to customers who request or receive assistance or information on FSA programs.

COLUMBUS — More than 15,000 ring-necked pheasants will be released at 25 Ohio public hunting areas this fall to provide additional hunting opportunities across the state, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Change was the topic of this year’s Wyandot County soils contest for agriculture students from Carey, Upper Sandusky, Riverdale and Mohawk. The predominate change was made for the rural judging category in determining soil textures.
