MARYSVILLE — The Ohio State Fair is the summer’s highlight for many youth livestock exhibitors, and this summer was no exception for Ohio’s youth who won top honors at the Ohio State Fair from July 25 through Aug. 5. The Ohio Expositions Commission awards scholarships to junior beef exhibitors looking to further their education.

The 70th annual meeting of the Wyandot Soil and Water Conservation District is Aug. 16 at the Masters Building at the Wyandot County Fairgrounds. Voting begins at 5:45 p.m., and the meal will be at 6:30 p.m.

BUCYRUS — The Ohio Soil and Water Conservation Commission will cause an election of supervisors of the Soil and Water Conservation District to be held in accordance with Chapter 940 of the Ohio Revised Code. The election will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Crawford SWCD office and at the annual meeting from 5:30-6:45 p.m. Aug. 30 at The Pickwick Place, 1875 N. Sandusky Ave., Bucyrus.

As part of a 33-year effort to protect sensitive lands and improve water quality and wildlife habitat on private lands, the USDA will resume accepting applications for the voluntary Conservation Reserve Program. Eligible farmers and private landowners can sign up at their County FSA office.

SYCAMORE — Agriculture is ramping up efforts to bridge the growing divide between food and the people eating it and there are few more ambitious or creative efforts than Acres of Adventure near Bucyrus.

KENTON — A manure science review is being held Wednesday near Forest in Hardin County. Registration for the statewide event is $30 per person and may be paid at the door. Breakfast and lunch is included with the registration fee.

COLUMBUS — The Ohio State Fair Junior Fair Board is made up of the state’s best and brightest young leaders, hand-picked to contribute to the success of the Ohio State Fair each year. Selected to represent their respective youth organizations, these students serve on behalf of thousands of students across Ohio.

The Envirothon competition is designed to stimulate, reinforce and enhance interest in the environment and natural resources among high school students. The Envirothon tests students’ knowledge of soils, forestry, wildlife, aquatic ecology and current environmental issues.

Conservation Reserve Program participants are responsible for ensuring adequate, approved vegetative and practice cover is maintained to control erosion throughout the life of the contract after the practice has been established. Participants also must control undesirable vegetation, weeds (including noxious weeds), insects and rodents that may pose a threat to existing cover or adversely impact other landowners in the area.

FOREST — At the free 4R Technology Review Field Day, retailers, farmers and other interested parties will hear from experts and see field demonstrations focused on strengthening the industry’s commitment to improving the quality of Ohio’s waterways.
