ASHLAND — The following students completed their Ashland University degree requirements following the spring 2019 semester: Haley Leeth, of Sycamore, received a Bachelor of Science in nursing during Ashland University’s spring 2019 commencement ceremonies May 4, 2019. Leeth majored in nursing and is a 2015 graduate of Mohawk High School.

The Wyandot Piecemakers quilt club will host a guest speaker at its May 22 meeting. Sheila Painter will give a presentation on “Focusing on Short Cut Quilts”.

TOLEDO — The American Red Cross has a critical shortage of type O blood and urges eligible donors to give now to help patients facing trauma and other life-threatening situations. Right now, the Red Cross has less than a two-day supply of type O blood available for emergency rooms, where it can be most critical. That means just six units of type O blood are available for every 100,000 people, but at least 14 are needed every day. While just 7% of the U.S. population has type O negative blood, it can be transfused to patients with any blood type and is what hospital staff reach for during emergencies when there isn’t time to determine a patient’s blood type. Type O positive blood is the most transfused blood type and is also critical in trauma situations.

CAREY – The Father Paul Volunteer Bakery at Our Lady of Consolation will have its final spring bake sale Saturday and Sunday. Apple, pumpkin and Dutch apple pies will be sold at a special price. Other pies will include rhubarb, cherry, strawberry/rhubarb, grape and blackberry.

HARPSTER — Leah Jean (Frey) and Harold Eugene Stone, of Harpster, are celebrating 70 years of marriage today. The couple was married May 15, 1949, at Green Camp Baptist Church in Green Camp with the Rev. Lester Kidd officiating.

BUCYRUS — Safety belt usage continues to be a primary focus for the Ohio State Highway Patrol as troopers participate in the Click it or Ticket campaign. The campaign begins on May 13 and runs until June 2. Expect to see troopers on Ohio’s roads encouraging drivers to wear their safety belts.

MARION — The North Central Ohio Rehabilitation Center recently celebrated its 10th annual Volunteer Appreciation Day. This day is a way NCORC says thanks to community services sites and individuals who volunteer their time to mentor youth during the year of 2018.

The Ohio Development Disabilities Council is recruiting new membership for the following categories: — Individual with a developmental disability; — Parent or guardian of a child with a developmental disability; and

TIFFIN — Barking Lot Party, the May Third Thursday event, is 5-8 p.m. Thursday, with events planned in the Croghan Bank and Laird Arcade parking lots and almost 30 businesses offering specials. Participants can register for door prizes at participating businesses. The event is free and family- and pet-friendly.

Bring a teacup and your favorite tea time snack to our potluck meal at the Upper Sandusky Community Library at 6 p.m. Monday for the May meeting of the What’s Cookin’ cookbook discussion group. A representative from the Swan Tea House in Findlay will give a special presentation.
