Cooking Matters

Seven community members recently completed the six week Cooking Matters program held recently at Angeline Industries. As part of the No Kid Hungry campaign to end childhood hunger in America, Cooking Matters teaches participants to shop smarter, use nutrition information to make healthier choices and cook delicious, affordable meals. Founded in 1993, Cooking Matters and thousands of volunteer instructors have helped more than 265,000 families in communities across the country learn how to eat better for less.

The 166th Ohio State Fair opens Wednesday

COLUMBUS — The 166th Ohio State Fair will begin Wednesday. Gates will open at 9 a.m., at which time the opening ceremony and ribbon cutting will take place at the Cardinal Gate. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, and Ohio Expo Center and State Fair General Manager Virgil Strickler, will participate in the ceremony and make opening remarks.

Crawford Park District planning weekend events

CRESTLINE — The Crawford Park District recently announced upcoming events. Canoeing is 10 a.m. Saturday at Neff Reservoir, Ohio 98, Bucyrus. Join the Crawford Park District staff for an evening paddle around Neff Reservoir. Learn some canoeing basics and take to the water. Attendees will also do some wildlife watching. Pre-registration is required by July 26. For more information contact the Crawford Park District office at 419-683-9000.

Red Cross in need of missing blood types

TOLEDO — In June, the American Red Cross launched the Missing Types campaign to raise awareness for lifesaving blood donations and urge the public to make an appointment to give blood or platelets this summer. During the Missing Types campaign, the letters A, B and O, the letters representing the main blood groups, are disappearing from brands, social media pages, signs and websites to illustrate the critical role blood donors play in helping patients. When the letters A, B and O vanish from everyday life, the gaps are striking. And when A, B, O and AB blood types go missing from hospital shelves, patient care and medical treatments are affected.

Humane Society: July 19, 2019

The following report was prepared and submitted by the Wyandot County Humane Society on Monday and is correct as of that date. Pets reported as missing since the last report that have not been found include a tan older female chihuahua, a black and white female chihuahua-beagle mix, an older tri-color male bernese mountain dog, a large fluffy male tiger cat, a neutered male blonde pomeranian-poodle mix, a spayed female tiger cat, a neutered male black and white cat, and a neutered tri-color male sheltie.

Fairhaven Donor Appreciation Dinner recognizes giving

Fairhaven Community, a United Church Homes community, hosted its Donor Appreciation Dinner on July 9. The event honored individuals who donate time and offer financial support to the UCH mission. This year, the community gave three awards: the Ben M. Herbster Award to a devoted donor, the Spirit Award to an enthusiastic volunteer and the Diakonie Award to a supportive congregation.

Flag City Balloonfest is gearing up for its 20th year

FINDLAY — The Flag City BalloonFest will host its 20th hot air balloon festival Aug. 9 – 11 at Emory Adams Park, in Findlay. Spectators can look forward to a number of new events and enjoy returning favorites such as the car show, kids’ fair, craft show and fireworks. The Flag City BalloonFest is proud to announce several of its new features.
