HHWP CAC offering cooling assistance

The HHWP Community Action Commission will help income-eligible Ohioans stay cool during the hot summer months. The Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis Program began July 1 and will run until Aug. 31, 2019. The Summer Crisis Program provides assistance to low-income households with an elderly member (60 years or older), or households that can provide physician documentation that cooling assistance is needed for a household member's health. In 2018, HHWP assisted 439 households in Hancock, Hardin, Wyandot, and Putnam Counties with utility bill assistance via the Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis Program. Additionally, 179 air conditioners, 269 fans, and 2 AC repairs for low-income seniors and individuals with health conditions that required cooling were provided.

What’s Cookin’ to meet Monday

The What’s Cookin’ cookbook discussion group will meet at 6 p.m. Monday in the Upper Sandusky Community Library basement. The them for August is bringing a dish made from fresh produce. The favorite dish will have its recipe voted into the library’s September newsletter.

Area campus notes: August 22, 2019

At the recent state convention of Ohio DeMolay, 14 scholarships were awarded that include two local DeMolay Chapter members. Both local scholarship recipients are 2019 high school graduates. Kurtis Meeker, son of Michael and Tammy Meeker, is a 2019 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School. He has been accepted at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, where he will major in music education.

Crawford Park District announces remaining August events

Viewing the Night Sky is 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Lowe-Volk Park, 2401 Ohio 598. Join members of the Crawford Park Astronomy Club as they share their knowledge and telescope skills with all who are interested in the celestial sights. Summer skies are famous for viewing galaxies. Dress for the weather. The group meets at sunset and, if needed, will meet inside and show videos. Bring a own telescope or allow the volunteers to assist with those provided. It’s a spectacular universe.
