Wyandottes tour ancestors’ homeland

Paying respects

Members of the Wyandotte Nation came to Wyandot County on Monday to visit landmarks associated with their ancestors. Twenty-two Wyandotte teens traveled to Ohio from Wyandotte, Oklahoma, on an annual historic trip taken by teens who are hired by the Wyandotte Nation in a summer work program.

Merchants along West Wyandot Avenue will share their sidewalks with local artists from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Chalk art enthusiasts are encouraged to decorate the sidewalk from Freedom Caregivers to Newell’s Optometry with Willy Wonka-inspired art, and they got busy early as several renditions have popped up on the sidewalks this week.
